2G Spectram Scam Case "Corrupt & Dishonest" Say, Arun Jaitley

Govt slammed Congress for celebrating 2G verdict. Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said it was a corrupt & dishonest policy, which has already been upheld by the Supreme Court in 2012.

Government has slammed Congress party for celebrating the 2G spectrum judgement, saying the opposition party is treating it as a badge of honour.

In the first reaction from the government after the special court pronounced its verdict on 2G case, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that the allocation policy of 2G spectrum was not an honest one and spectrum was allocated in 2007-2008 at the price of 2001.

2G scam cases: Court acquits all involved

Former telecom minister A Raja and DMK MP Kanimozhi were today acquitted by a special court in the 2G spectrum scam case.

Fifteen other accused in the case and three companies were also acquitted.

Special CBI Judge O P Saini pronounced the judgement. In its charge sheet filed in April 2011 against Raja and others, the CBI had alleged that there was a loss of over 30 thousand crore rupees to the exchequer in allocation of 122 licences for 2G spectrum which were scrapped by the Supreme Court in February 2012.

The Special CBI Court also acquitted all 19 accused, including Raja and Kanimozhi in the Enforcement Directorate's money laundering case.

The court had in October 2011 framed charges against them under various provisions of the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act dealing with offences of criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery and taking bribe.

BJP Ahead in Gujarat but still under Pressure

Anti-incumbency is an issue. Most lamented the lack of development. This must be seen in relative terms, for Gujarat is visibly more developed than most parts of the country, but the feeling of being let down by their governments was quite strong among the people we met. This angst was most visible in the traditional entry point to Saurashtra: Viramgram in Ahmedabad district, which is also Hardik Patel’s hometown. Once we entered Saurashtra, we encountered the same angry sentiment in Surendranagar and the CM’s constituency of Rajkot West, though we found a more pro-BJP sentiment in Gondal, which is the second-most Patel dominated constituency in Gujarat.
Patidar leader Hardik Patel at an election rally in Gujarat.
Also, it seemed as if the issue of the leaked ‘Sex CDs’ involving Hardik Patel had not created any negative impact against him. But let me make it clear here: our impressions come from conversations in road-side stalls and dhabas and are anecdotal in nature. They come from people we were randomly meeting and the sample could be biased. Just as it was when we met people at a roadside stall in Surendranagar, where the mood was extremely pro-Congress, before we realized the location was adjacent to the Congress office and most of the people we were talking to were from the party and the most vocal of all was a Congress corporator. Similarly, in Gondal, one local shopkeeper summed up the mood there saying, “We are upset with BJP but not angry.”
In terms of the political outlook, although the Congress is seen to be making gains, its real impact may not be much. While the BJP will find it tough, given the clear signs of anti-incumbency, it is not that the Congress is on a roll. Even its die-hard supporters put their party’s prospects at 50-50: surely not the sentiments of a party hopeful of making a comeback after two decades.
And this brings one to the supposed Rahul Gandhi factor in these elections. Notwithstanding what his partymen say, there is none. Of the hundreds of people we met, there was not one mention of their leader. BJP was an issue – whether people were for or against it — development was an issue, but if the Congress expected their young leader to create a buzz, it has failed. Rahul Gandhi has changed his style in this Gujarat campaign and Congress is certainly giving BJP a fight in what is the saffron party’s toughest election yet in the state but the narrative is still driven by whether people are pro or anti-BJP, not by Rahul.

This was in contrast to how the Prime Minister is perceived. While there were enough who were critical of the BJP, not one person spoke against the Prime Minister. Narendra Modi has a persona that is larger than life. People will speak against the party, local leaders, even the current top leadership, but not against Modi. His command over the state and its people remains strong, and there is considerable pride that their man is the nation’s Chief Executive.

And therein lies the main issue. People may not be very happy with the ruling party, but the obvious lack of someone who they can look up to as a credible alternative bugs them no end. As a Muslim gent, who is in the travel trade, I spoke to on the walkway around the magnificent Somnath temple told me categorically that Congress has a better chance here, but mainly due to the wrong BJP candidate choice, adding, “Lekin iska matlab nahi hai ki Congress ki sarkar aane wali hai. Aap solah aane likhwa lo mujhse, Sarkar Bhajap ki banegi.”

Gujarat Assembly Polls On Dec 9 and 14, Counting on Dec 18: ELection Commission

Assembly elections in Gujarat will be held over two phases on December 9 and 14, the Election Commission announced on Wednesday, setting the stage for a high-stakes battle between the ruling BJP and the Congress.

Counting will take place on December 18, Chief Election Commissioner A K Joti said at a press conference in New Delhi. The Model Code of Conduct comes into immediate effect, he said.

The poll process will start on November 14 with the issue of the gazette notification for the first phase. Candidates can start filing their nominations from that day. The first phase will be held in 89 of the 182 seats and will cover 19 of 33 districts. The notification for the second phase will be issued on November 20 for remaining 93 assembly seats.

Paper trail of votes will be used in all the 50,128 polling stations in the state to ensure transparency, Joti said. The voters will be able to see their votes cast through the Voter-Verified Paper Trail Audit (VVPAT) machines. The Commission has also set up 182 all-women polling stations, one in each assembly constituency.

Joti said CCTV cameras will be used at border checkposts to prevent the smuggling of liquor and money and to stop anti-social elements from entering the state. "Elections in Gujarat have always been peaceful and the Commission will take all steps to ensure that," the CEC said.

'Hasty' Implementation Of GST To Hit Growth: Manmohan Singh

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday again hit out at the BJP government saying that demonetisation and “hasty” implementation of GST will adversely impact the economic growth.

“Both demonetisation and the GST have had some impact (on GDP growth),” he told a business news channel. He noted that both measures would affect the informal sector and the small scale sector.

“The sectors today are responsible for 40 per cent of GDP. Ninety per cent of India’s employment is in the informal sector,” he said.
“The withdrawal of 86 per cent of currency plus also GST, because it has been put on practice in haste, there are a lot of glitches which are now coming out. These are bound to affect the GDP growth adversely,” added Dr Singh.

Dr Singh had called note ban a “monumental mismanagement”, “org-anised loot” and “legalis-ed plunder” which would cause GDP growth to fall by two per cent.

AAP Will Not Contest Election In Gujarat- Himachal

In the previous assembly elections, you had to face defeat in Goa-Punjab. After the defeat in the Punjab and Goa assembly elections, AAP will not contest elections outside Delhi. On Wednesday, quoting party sources, the news agency reported that the party just wants to focus on Delhi. This formula told that there is a shortage of commissioned workers in Delhi. Soon the final decision will be taken in the meeting of the Political Affairs Committee (PAC). Let me tell you that even after the Delhi MCD election, the party was defeated by BJP. AAP will not contest elections in Gujarat- Himachal.

- This year is taking a lot of time for the AAP. In February, the party challenged the assembly elections in Goa and Punjab, but both of them had to face the mouth. Punjab got 20 seats less than expected, while its account in Goa could not be opened.

- Now the top leadership has decided that the party will not contest elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. Let us know that the elections in both the states will be till December this year.

According to sources, recently a meeting was held with the AAP's State Leaders in which there was talk of not contesting elections outside of Delhi. However, the State Leaders were in the fray for contesting elections, but Leadership explained them in some way. Earlier in June, the State Leaders had submitted the report to the high command by surveying the number of party workers and power. There was a double thought about contesting elections.

Kejriwal started campaign in Gujarat

- The Aam Aadmi Party did not contest assembly elections in 2012 in Himachal. At that time, argued that the party will contest in its first election only in Delhi. This time too, the party is not in the mood to contest elections in Himachal.

On the other hand, in Gujarat, AAP had already prepared to contest elections very long ago. Did many meetings For this, he also tried to connect the people of Patidar community. Along with this, the issue of violence incidents with the Dalits made the issue.

Had to move to the national level

- Last year, AAP leaders had announced to take the party to the national level. Under it, it was decided to contest the elections in Goa and Punjab, but both the places lost the party.

- With the unilateral victory of BJP in UP, AAP is now scared of sacking power in Delhi.

- In the three (North, South and East) MCD elections of Delhi, the AAP had to face defeat by BJP. After this, the AAP's Delhi-in-charge Dilip Pandey was removed from the party and he was made in-charge. Elections were held in May this year.
